AC coil & air handler cleaning
The EPA notes that some research suggests cleaning dirty cooling coils and fans can improve efficiency. It says little evidence shows that cleaning the ducts alone does.

Clermont was founded in 1884 and named for the French birthplace of A.F. Wrotnowski. It became a city on December 28, 1916, and its motto is "Choice of Champions." The Florida Citrus Tower dates to 1956. Most Clermont homes are much younger, and in Florida, 90% of households use central air conditioning, according to the EIA.
In newer homes, the problem is usually moisture or air leaks rather than decades of dust.

The NFPA reports that about a third of home dryer fires were caused by a failure to clean. Clean vents are one of the simplest fire-safety checks.
Learn moreHurricane Milton dropped 10.83 inches on a gauge just north-northeast of Clermont in October 2024. If water reached your air handler or ducts, the Florida Department of Health warns: "If the system was flooded, turning it on without proper cleaning will spread mold throughout your home." Long outages also leave a closed-up house hot and humid. Ask the company to show you any mold it says it found, as the EPA advises, before you approve the work.
Florida treats duct cleaning that removes grilles, plus AC coil work, as licensed air-conditioning contractor work. Ask for the company's CAC/CMC license number and check it at MyFloridaLicense.com. A county business tax receipt is not a license. This is general information, not legal advice. We don't do the work ourselves and aren't a contractor.
Age alone doesn't decide it. The EPA recommends cleaning only as needed, for example when there is visible mold in hard ducts, vermin, or heavy debris. NADCA lists moving into a new home and remodeling as reasons to clean sooner. In newer homes, leaky ducts and condensation are often the bigger issue, so ask the company to show you what it sees first.
Central Florida's rainy season runs from late May to mid-October, and summer dew points average above 70°F. The EPA says condensation and high humidity are important indicators of possible mold growth. It also advises keeping drip pans clean and drain lines flowing. A licensed AC contractor can check the coil, the drain pan and the condensate line for the source.
Typical ranges from EPA and NADCA run $450 to $1,000 per system. HomeAdvisor and Fixr cost guides average about $389 to $500. Fixr puts a 3,000 sq ft home at $450 to $1,050. Dryer vent cleaning alone typically runs $100 to $170. These are estimates, not quotes. Treat $99 whole-house offers with caution, as NADCA warns.
In a 2015 declaratory statement, the Florida Construction Industry Licensing Board found that one petitioner's dryer vent cleaning method, which involved no disassembly, did not require a mechanical contractor's license. Rerouting or replacing a vent is different. Duct cleaning that removes grilles is licensed AC work. This is general information, not legal advice.
